Continental Computer Contributes Software to Recovery Effort

9/14/2001

JONESBORO, Ark., Sept.14 – At the request of the New York Funeral Directors Association, Continental Computer Corp. is contributing its software to help authorities expedite the processing of recovered remains at the site of the World Trade Center disaster, the company said Friday.
With the death toll from the terrorist attacks Tuesday expected to climb into the thousands, the processing of death certificates and other required forms threatened to slow and further frustrate the recovery effort. Continental, headquartered in Jonesboro, Ark., produces The Director's Assistant, the leading software for managing funerals and funeral homes.
Continental CEO Michael Fullington said the company received a request from the state funeral directors association for assistance in speeding the paper flow. Continental immediately dispatched a representative to the operations center at Ground Zero and began installing its software on six laptops being used by authorities at the scene in lower Manhattan, Fullington said.
"The Director's Assistant for Windows enables users to enter information about a death one time and automatically fill in the numerous official forms and funeral home documents used in each case, from death certificates to obituaries," Fullington said. "We are gratified that our company is in a position to help at this awful time for so many families, for New York and our country.”
Fullington said, "We appreciate the New York Funeral Directors Association's confidence in our software's ability to facilitate the recovery efforts."
He pledged that any officials unfamiliar with the software would be provided top-priority technical support to help them take full advantage of the product's features and power.
Continental Computer also operates the National Obituary Archive™, which has established an online memorial to the victims of the attacks at http://www.nationalobituaryarchive.com/. Visitors to the site may view the names of the latest confirmed dead, read individual entries, sign a Guestbook and register to be notified when particular names are added to the list.
