Continental to Boost Obituary Sales Effort

8/27/2002

JONESBORO, Ark., Aug 27—Continental Computer Corp., the leading producer of management software for the funeral industry, will launch a national sales campaign for its Web site and National Obituary Archive products, the company announced today.

Continental’s national sales force, which has specialized in selling The Director’s Assistant software and related accounting and enhancement modules, will now be responsible for selling online memorial products to funeral homes for their client families, said acting President and CEO William S. Kilroy Jr.

“This represents a substantial increase in our commitment to promote and expand the Web site and memorial product lines,” Kilroy said. “Funeral homes and families are showing increasing interest in the online world, and we want to respond to the growing demand.”

Continental’s Vice President for Sales, Gerald Johns, will be responsible for the new sales effort and will work with Michael Putzel, Vice President for Web Operations and Communications, to coordinate sales, advertising and marketing efforts.

Since the launch of the National Obituary Archive, www.NationalObituaryArchive.com, nearly two years ago, Continental has helped funeral directors and their families publish lasting memorials where friends and relatives everywhere can see them and respond. The company also helps funeral homes establish their own, affordable Web sites that carry the same obituaries that appear in the National Obituary Archive and on America Online at Keyword: obituary.

The National Obituary Archive, which now contains more than 56 million obituaries and death records, has continually improved its offerings to include more pictures, tributes and interactive features, such as individual Guestbooks, to enable families to safeguard and share their memories.

Funeral homes that use current versions of The Director’s Assistant software can produce and upload obituary text and photos directly to the National Obituary Archive with the click of a button. An easy, Web-based form is available to speed publication for funeral homes that do not use the company’s software.
